Wow, I would never have considered a GMC crossover before, but that thing is rather striking. It was enough to actually make me Google it and find out what I was looking at. A GMC Terrain Denali. Love the color combo too.

I assume it’s driven by some combination of wanting big pillars to meet roof strength requirements without expensive materials, and wanting to maximize useful cargo space by having the window higher. Plus, of course, the floating roof styling trend that seeks to make all cars look a bit like the i3.

If they haven’t made a purchase yet, tell them to keep looking. GM has gotten really weird about incentivizing car sales. Last month it was basically no deal, this month we got over $6k off MSRP. Last month you could get a base SLE model for 20% off sticker, this month no such deal.

2.0 Turbo. I wanted something I could do a moderate amount of towing with and surprisingly the 2.0 has a higher towing rating than the diesel.

Believe it or not is has more h orsepower than my dad’s 1997 Tahoe with a 5.7L V8, and gets better fuel economy.

Though let’s not talk torque...

Thanks! I'm an unabashed GM fanboy, and my wife and I were in the market for a midsize SUV to replace her totaled 2004 Lexus RX330. I wouldn't have even bothered looking at a 2017 Terrain, but the 2018 really caught my eye and we both fell in love with it!

Yeah, I have no idea what people are freaking out about. Teslas don’t have shifters, Priuses have weird shifters, Dodge and Range Rover had a dial, and Chrysler (and probably a few others I can’t think of) had push buttons back in the day. This is hardly unusual or bad. I think it’s simple, intuitive, and compact. I like that it doesn’t take up a bunch of space on the console - let’s be honest, having a big stick there is just a wannabe manual shifter . E ven better, it doesn’t have fake flappy paddles on the steering wheel.

I think it’s mostly “the look”, you’re right, the i3 probably started it, but I see it on Lexus and Nissans, and probably a few others. It is a small window, but from a drivers perspective I actually don’t find it that bad.

Have you seen on in person? My wife said the same thing, she looked at pictures online and I practically had to drag her to the dealership. Once she saw one in person she loved it. And I think it’s quite handsome, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it.

I will give you that the grill is a bit ostentatious, though I think it comes across somewhat better in person. Anyways it’s part of the Denali package and I can live with it for what the rest of the Denali package conveys.

I actually really wanted to like the Juke, there’s something about the face that both attracts and repulses me at the same time. It’s like the Seinfeld where Jerry dates the “two-face”, the girl who is sometimes really hot, and sometimes really ugly.

Its a bit excessive, I agree. I like the SLT grill better, and body color mirror caps, but hated the black plastic fender flares and rockers. Also, t he Denali interior is really nice, so it was a tradeoff.
